The observable Universe, has a radius of 46.5 billion light-years, containing at least two trillion galaxies.
Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is just one among these numerous galaxies, and it isn’t even considered a big galaxy. It stretches 105,700 light-years in diameter and may contain at least 100 billion planets and 400 billion stars.
Imagine how many planets and stars those 2 trillion galaxies might have. Isn’t God amazing!
When we consider the vastness of the universe, it can quickly put into perspective how something that has been magnified, is really quite small in size.
Let’s look at Psalm 8:3-9 – David starts and ends this psalm by worshipping God for the success of his creation. As he stares into the night sky, David says “I look up at your micro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky jewelry, moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then, I look at my micro-self and wonder “Why do you bother with us?” Why take a second to look our way?”
David marvels at the fact that human beings are the culmination of God’s creation – a masterpiece made in His image. Not only does God love us and care about us, but he has given us extraordinary privileges: “You made them a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet”.
This psalm is a great reminder of God’s love and care for us.
If you are facing really big things in your life that may seem insurmountable, you can take account of your thoughts. What we think on with frequency becomes magnified. If we can recognize what we have magnified, we can pivot and redirect our thoughts to God.
Focusing on others is a great way to take the focus off of ourselves. 1 Cor 10:31 – Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Pray and with thanksgiving give God all the glory.
